Newspapers in Education (NiE)

Newspapers and magazines perform a vital role in our democratic society, providing news, opinion and the means by which we can advertise our views or buy and sell our services or products.

The daily newspaper is an authentic text that never outdates. Its pages contain informative and persuasive texts that reflect the current social attitudes, issues and events. By reading the paper daily students are exposed to a variety of forms of information and communication about their society. This, in turn, will enable them to make informed decisions about their future and promote citizenship.

Newspapers can be used across all areas of the curriculum to enhance learning and development of values and attitudes, skills, and knowledge and understanding. They also provide a valuable source of up-to-date current affairs for discussion and inquiry.
