Publishers' recycling film wins Gold Award

The Recycling Challenge film posterThe Publishers National Environment Bureau's educational film, The Recycling Challenge, has won a Gold Award in the inaugural Australian Video Awards.

The 12-minute film features the Seven Network's Big Arvo reporter Ben Hewett and was produced by Creative Partners Tasmania.

In it, young newspaper reader Ben accepts a challenge to recycle his daily newspaper in just 24 hours. He sets off to the Norske Skog newspaper recycling plant at Albury, then through the adjoining newsprint manufacturing plant.

He follows the rolls of newsprint to a major newspaper printing plant then finally back home, as the newspaper with its recycled fibre content is delivered the next morning.Ben Hewitt sitting on pile of old newspapers

It is done with flair and humour - and no commercials. The reaction from teachers around the country has been very positive.

You can obtain a copy of the film on video (VHS) or on CD from the PNEB (available free to schools, councils and government bodies in Australia). You can also order copies of our recycling fact sheets and wall poster.
