Kids Lead the Way With Newspaper Recycling Messages

Thousands of primary school pupils throughout Australia have taken part in the Newspaper Recycling Awareness Awards, run over two years by the Publishers National Environment Bureau and Planet Ark.

The competition was designed as a class project to study recycling – in particular, the recycling of newspapers and magazines - using a Teacher's Guide based on State curriculum guidelines.

Within their class projects, the children designed newspaper ads to promote newspaper recycling and show that 'newspapers are environmentally friendly'. Schools were asked to submit one entry from each Upper Primary class.

The judges were very impressed with the quality of the entries. Jon Dee, managing director and founder of Planet Ark said, "It's wonderful to see teachers and schools showing such enthusiasm for the environment and recycling.”

One student from each state won fantastic prizes for themselves and for their school. Winning entries were also published in newspapers across Australia during National Recycling Week.
